POWER PROBLEM IN INDIA

India, the second most populous country in the world drastically faces inadequate supply of power.  Many states resort power cut as a solution.  Both the state governments and the central government are toiling hard to minimize this problem.  Many power producing units have been renovated and still some of them yet to undergo maintenance or renovation.  Many projects are under construction.  There is no doubt, the governments are taking initiatives to put an end for it.

Why do we face power shortage?

The degree of power shortage is directly proportional to the rate at which the various industries and house-hold people consume power.  WE cannot think of employing hurdles for the industries because industrial growth and functioning is indispensable for our national growth.  In this situation what can we do?

Can we create public awareness?

It is our sincere responsibility to create public awareness, particularly to our electricity employees.  Often we could see the illumination street lights in the day time.  It may be because of the carelessness of our people who are in charge of it.  The respective officers must take proper initiative to nip it in the bud itself.  Public should also look into the matter seriously and they should realize that it is their money that has been wasted unnecessarily.  If they happen to come across similar situation, it is one of the prime responsibilities to inform the matter to the concerned people.

House-hold consumption:

At present, people’s mentality has been changed considerably with regard to house hold power consumption.  Some of us think that we can get electricity freely from water without spending any money.  What they feel is that we require only some posts and wires.  In this connection, what to be mentioned here is that there exist as wide gulf between the people of the past (people who consumed electricity during 1960) and the present

People of the past:

In those days in houses, people treated electricity as a costly item (correct approach) and never used lights extravagantly. Though the number of people who used electricity was less, the consumption was very cautious.  When there was no work in the kitchen or in a particular room, they used  to put-off the lights.  Mostly they used only one tube or bulb in a particular room.  Most of them never used the fans always. There was a lot of restrictions with regard to the usage of fans and other electrical appliances.

People of the present:

At present. There are many lights (tubes or bulbs) in a particular room and are concerned with only SWITCH ON AND NOT SWITCH OFF.  When any one moved out of a room, he/she forgets to switch off any thing resulting wastage of power. It happens in many offices, including educational institutions. Many offices and educational institutions have been closed in the evening with all or a few lights and fans in the running conditions.

HIGH TIME TO BRING AWARENESS:

It is the high time to educate our own young generation about the problem of wasting electricity unnecessarily.  It should be started from each home and we have to bring awareness among everybody about the necessity of power saving mechanism so that everybody should be brought in the right track to stop the habit of wasting electricity.  Knowingly or unknowingly many of us tend to waste electricity.  The Art of Power Saving can be taught to our school children as a part of curriculum so that everybody can be a part of building our nation.
